Jakobe Performing Arts invites you to an artists’ talk on Experiments in Art and Technology by Julie Martin with sounds by Jacob Kirkegaard. Sunday Nov 19 from 2pm to 4pm. Location: Rolfsvej 10, kld. t.h. 2000 Frederiksberg (Copenhagen), DK
Julie Martin is the current director of Experiments in Art and Technology (E.A.T.), that was founded in 1966 to provide artists with access to engineers, scientists and new technology. Julie Martin will tell the story of E.A.T., that began in 1966 when a group of ten New York artists, choreographers and composers and thirty engineers and scientists from Bell Telephone Laboratories collaborated on a series of innovative dance, music and theater performances titled "9 Evenings: Theatre & Engineering”. Julie will also talk about E.A.T.’s later projects such as the Pepsi Pavilion at Expo ’70 in Osaka, Japan and the realisation of David Tudor’s work “Island Eye Island Ear”. During Julie’s talk, Jacob will play excerpts from sounds recordings of these E.A.T. projects.
Over the last years, Julie and Jacob have worked with her large sound archive creating an audio documentary, “The Story of E.A.T.” They will talk about this collaboration and play excerpts from the chapter on Jean Tinguely’s and Billy Kluver’s collaboration on “Homage to New York,” a large sculpture that destroyed itself in the garden of MoMA in New York in 1960.
Jacob is also working with Julie on releasing sound works from her archive. The live recordings of John Cage’s work at 9 Evenings (Variations VII) as well as recordings from Davids Tudor’s experiments from India 1969 were released on vinyl by TOPOS and it is possible to purchase the vinyl releases at the event as well as to hear excerpts of upcoming releases. Hosted at Jakobe's studio on Frederiksberg. Jakobe TALKs is hosted by Rebekka Bohse Meyer & Jacob Kirkegaard.

PERMANENT CLOUD by Jacob Kirkegaard is a new sound and visual installation created especially for Mori Art Museum.
The work captures the sound of humanity's rapidly growing digital memory stored in the mechanical heart of the Cloud.
Jacob Kirkegaard made audio recordings at a massive data center in Germany with sensors placed directly on different parts of its servers. These sounds of the mechanical Cloud are combined with video footage he shot of natural clouds.
Permanent Cloud is installed in a darkened room on the 53rd floor of the Mori Tower. The sound recordings of the Cloud play through four speakers located in the corners of the room. Video recordings of clouds are projected through three parallel semi-transparent hanging projection screens onto the large floor-to-ceiling window at the other end of the room, which is covered by a darkening film. Through this last projection surface can be seen the real clouds and the Tokyo skyline beyond that become integral parts of the work. Mori Art Museum 20th Anniversary Exhibition: World Classroom, Tokyo, Japan. April 19 - September 24, 2023

DVINA, live at KUNSTHAL 44, Møn, Denmark. Part of INTERMEZZO and in collaboration with Riga biennial
DVINA is a portrait in sound of one of Riga’s most important landmarks: the river Daugava. No water sound is used in this work. Instead, vibration sensors were attached to the iron fences along the river. The movement of water, wind and passing ships causes the iron to vibrate. Like leaning an ear to the fences, the sensors attached to the iron invites the listener into the structure of the fences where the massive and endless force and stream of the river unfolds in a resonating microcosm of iron. Originally composed for SKAN Festival in Riga, Latvia, 2007. FB link.

A 20-minute version live performance of Kirkegaard's THE LAND (LANDET in Danish) - a pulsating and immersive work composed from sound- and vibration recordings of the mechanical aspects of Danish agriculture. Recorded on a pig- cattle- and a chicken farm, as well as at the ‘Danish Crown' pig slaughter house, detailed sensor recordings of the vibrating, roaring machinery of agriculture invites the listener out to the land and into an incessant, almost hypnotizing universe of sound; a condition that the endless pulse of the food industry generates. KØS Klub Sommerfest. KØS, Køge, June 10 (2pm-4pm)

ARTIST TALK – Inuk Silis Høegh and Jacob Kirkegaard
Meet the visual artist Inuk Silis Høegh (GL) in conversation with sound artist Jacob Kirkegaard (DK) on the film installation The Green Land: During the recording of The Green Land Inuk Silis Høegh invited the sound artist Jacob Kirkegaard to collaborate. As Inuk Silis Høegh needed to entrust the sound of his film to another artist with challenging perspectives, no one better for the task is Jacob Kirkegaard, whom have recorded sound from everything in-between Greenland’s ice cap, Trump’s wall in Mexico, dead bodies and landfills. How did the collaboration develop between an artist with a loss of hearing, and a sound artist’s microphone recording the almost inaudible. How did they in collaboration find the right balance between image- and sound narration?
