For SKAN Festival in Riga, Latvia, 2007
DVINA is a portrait in sound of one of Riga’s most important landmarks: the river Daugava. No water sound is used in this work. Instead, vibration sensors were attached to the iron fences along the river. The movement of water, wind and passing ships causes the iron to vibrate. Like leaning an ear to the fences, the sensors attached to the iron invites the listener into the structure of the fences where the massive and endless force and stream of the river unfolds in a resonating microcosm of iron
