Commissioned by Viestarts Gailitis and performed live at SKAN Festival in Riga
September 2007
The composition DVINA is a homage to Riga. It aims to portrait
in sound, one of the most important landmarks of Riga, the river Daugava. DVINA is created from the subtle
resonating iron fences that stretch along the river. The movement of water, wind & passing ships make the iron fences slightly
vibrate and thereby to produce subtle tones which can only be heard when leaning an ear to the fences.
Jacob Kirkegaard attached accelerometers
on the fences and captured the inner resonating body of these fonces. DVINA is a composition of these recordings and created with the aim
to bring its constant floating immense force,
acoustically to life
