Nordic Council Music Prize writes:
New collaboration between the two Danish Nominees:
Danish artists Else Marie Pade and Jacob Kirkegaard were both nominated for the Nordic Council Music Prize 2012 for their electronic music compositions. Despite an age difference of 51 years, they speak the same musical language and are prominent listeners and communicators of sounds that we tend to overhear. Now for the first time these two pioneers are collaborating on a work which will be presented at the Wundergrund Festival in Copenhagen: “Svævninger” investigates the variations that one can hear when sound waves collide. Both artists have previously worked on this phenomenon; Jacob Kirkegaard in his work “Labyrinthitis” (2007) and Else Marie Pade in her work "Faust Suite" (1962). For their new joint piece “Svævninger”, they remixed some of Pade’s early (and hitherto unreleased) sound experiments with some of Kirkegaard’s recordings from his own ear, thus leading the audience straight into the undiscovered labyrinths of their own hearing.

This limited edition (of 300) LP is an art work based on recordings from the now defunct Nuclear Power Plant Barsebäck located in southern Sweden, and is a recording unlike most. HOLLAND. PLAYING THE BUILDING
On April 19, the Stedelijk Museum and Non-fiction are organizing an evening at TrouwAmsterdam both about and with sound art, as part of the series Temporary Stedelijk 3 – Stedelijk @ Trouw/De Verdieping. Leading artists and musicians will respond to the question: What does a building sound like? With live performances and installations by artists and musicians including Alva Noto, Machinefabriek, Jacob Kirkegaard, Sarah van Sonsbeeck, Mark Bain, Alexandra Duvekot, Peter C. Simon, and special presentations of the Stedelijk collection at De Verdieping.
Because of the printing presses once housed in the TrouwAmsterdam, the building is so well insulated that it has acquired a special acoustic character. During Hear It! (Part 2) – Playing the Building, artists play in various parts of the angular 1960s building in order to show the spatial and acoustic qualities of the impressive architecture originally designed for machinery.
Jacob Kirkegaard will create a new piece for this event: ri'zound is a sonic portrait of the big hall of the Trouw building. Sound recordings of the space are played back into the space that they were recorded in, while being recorded again. By repeating this process a number of times, the space is made to resound [ri'zound] with its own frequency.

The result will be a combination of sound, space and light that ‘drenches’ the galleries in all the colours of the rainbow. More info can be found on the freq_out website, the website of the museum or on this facebook page.
