Morgue

Morgue is a vocal composition rooted in the ambient soundscape of a morgue. Drawing from recordings captured within this environment, the resonant hum of ventilation and cooling systems was transcribed and reimagined for the human voice. The piece transforms the room tones of the space for the dead into a composition for the human breath and voice.

The piece was written for - and performed by two choirs; the renowned vocal ensemble ARS NOVA Copenhagen and the senior choir ALLEGRO KORET. It was performec live at Cisternerne in Copenhagen as part of BLOOM – Festival for Nature and Science in Copenhagen, Denmark, on May 25, 2019.
