A film by Camilla Magid. On location field recordings by Jacob Kirkegaard © 2012

The film follows a 9-year old boy (Shida) with albinism who has been given the chance of a ‘high class’ education at a boarding school in northern Tanzania for rich children. Shida comes from poverty, and his life has been constantly threatened since birth because of the fact that he’s an albino. We follow him during his first year at the boarding school, seeing how he slowly gains more confidence about himself while at the same time coping with the immense pressure that comes with trying to succeed at the school and also dealing with traumatic memories from his past. Failing at the school isn’t an option for Shida as it is for the ‘normal’ children; for him it’s a matter of life and death
