SPIRE - ORGAN WORKS OF
PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE

JACOB KIRKEGAARD -
EPILUDIO PATHETICO [A TRIBUTE TO RUED LANGGAARD]

Rued Langgaard (1893 - 1952) was an outstanding Danish composer even though he must be considered to be one of the "outsiders" of the history of music, whose fate is was to be neither understood or taken seriously by his contemporaries. Langgaard did not follow the musical trends of the 20th century but kept to his late romantic and symbolistic point of origin.

I grew up in the house of where Langgaard lived and have therefore always been curious about who he was. So when Touch asked me to do a piece inspired by the organ, it became obvious for me to dwork with his organ works.

Rued Langgaard composed operas, string quartets, symphonies and did works for church organ. I became inspired by an ironic title in one of his compositions, "Preludio Patetico", turning this tribute into an EPILUDIO PATHETICO.

JACOB KIRKEGAAARD -
HEAVY WATER - [BARSEBACK]

Barsebäck was a nuclear power plant in Sweden. Just before it closed down in May 05, I visited the plant and brought with me an accelerometer. With this tool I could put an ear to this whole nuclear body with all its pipes, basins and turbines. I made this track from the sound of a big tube that leads sea water into the reactor with a steady pressure.
